Berkshire Natural Resources Council 2021 Spring/Summer Volunteer Workdays

      

Safety Protocols 

  • BNRC volunteer workdays will be limited to 3-10 participants that must RSVP.  Staff members will not count toward the total participants.
  • Self-screen your health and don’t come to a workday if:
  • You or somebody in your household experiences COVID-19 symptoms or has traveled within the past 2 weeks to a location where COVID cases are high.
  • Anyone in your household has been exposed to someone with COVID-19.
  • Fully vaccinated participants may attend volunteer workdays without a face mask if comfortable doing so or are welcome to bring a mask and work masked as desired. BNRC will have extra masks in case someone forgets theirs.
  • Participants who are not fully vaccinated are required to wear masks for workdays when social distancing is not possible Again, BNRC will provide masks as needed.
  • All participants must practice social distancing by remaining 6 feet away from others on the trail. This includes stepping off the trail to let other visitors pass.
  • Participants must bring their own water, snacks, and work gloves. BNRC will have work gloves to provide you to keep if necessary.

Division Street Boat Launch Workday, Great Barrington (10 volunteers)
Tuesday, June 15th, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm (Raindate for Wednesday, June 16th)

Join the Housatonic Valley Association and BNRC in caring for the trees and shrubs planted along the riverbank last year. We’ll be making sure the plant cages are secure, adding plant cages to those that are missing, removing any plants around the plantings and mulch, and removing some invasives that are popping up. The outlined safety protocols must be followed.


Welcome Summer Festival, Great Barrington (3-5 volunteers)
Saturday, June 26th (Three available shifts: 10:30 am – 12:30 pm, 12:30 pm – 2:30 pm, and 2:30 pm – 4:30 pm)

Join us for a couple of hours at Berkshire South Community Center’s Welcome Summer Festival. BNRC will have an information table with something for all ages.


Clam River Corridor and Waterbar Maintenance, Sandisfield (5 volunteers)
Wednesday, June 30th, 10:00 am – 2:00 pm

This workday will focus on reshaping and cleaning out waterbars as well as clear the trail corridor. We’ll hike about 4 miles total. Please wear sturdy shoes, and bring gloves, 32oz of water, and lunch. The outlined safety protocols must be followed.


Trail Re-blazing along the Burbank and Charcoal Trails (6 volunteers)
Sunday, July 11th, 10:00 am – 2:00 pm

This workday will focus on re-painting the blazes along the Burbank and Charcoal Trails. We’ll hike approximately 3.5 miles. BNRC will provide all tools. Please wear clothes you don’t mind getting paint on, sturdy shoes, and bring gloves, 32oz of water, and lunch. The outlined safety protocols must be followed.

Wednesday, July 14th,

Invasive Species Removal at The Boulders, Pittsfield
Tuesday, July 20th, 10:00 am – 1:00 pm (8-10 volunteers)

Join us in our continued effort to remove invasive species along the Blue and Red trail at The Boulders reserve. We will hike in approximately ¾ mile to the work-site. Invasive species will be removed with hand tools like loppers and handsaws. BNRC will provide all tools. Please wear sturdy shoes, and bring gloves, 32oz of water, and lunch. The outlined safety protocols must be followed.


Hoosac Range Corridor and Vista Clearing
Friday, July 30th, 10:00 am – 2:00 pm (8 volunteers)

This workday will focus on defining the corridor along the 6-mile (out-and-back) Hoosac Range Trail. BNRC will provide all tools. If you have loppers and/or pruners, please feel free to bring. Please wear sturdy shoes, and bring gloves, 32oz of water, and lunch. The outlined safety protocols must be followed.
