Clam River Reserve Hike, Sandisfield ~ Hike BNRC’s newest trail!
Wednesday, October 12, 9:00am-11:00am
Distance: 2 miles
Terrain: Moderate, mostly on trail or road with short sections off-trail; occasional steep trail.
Description: Join BNRC on a guided tour of the brand new Hammertown Loop at the Clam River Reserve. This 1.6-mile loop features 0.7-miles of new-built hiking trail on the bank of the Clam River. In today’s drought the Clam is just a trickle, but more usually the Clam flows cold and fast through dense hemlocks – excellent brook trout habitat! The new trail will complete BNRC’s 4.5-mile trail network at the reserve. The Hammertown Loop wends through the most rugged and the most beautiful section of the 550-acre reserve. Bring water and a snack.
Directions: From Great Barrington take Route 23 east to Route 57 east in Monterey. Follow Route 57 for 12.0 miles. Turn left on Hammertown Road (look for signs to the Sandisfield Arts Center, 5 Hammertown Road). Follow Hammertown Road for 0.6 miles to the pull-off opposite 35 Hammertown Road. Meet there; the trail begins 0.25 miles north on Hammertown.
