Spring 2021 Volunteer Workdays

 

Safety Protocols 

  • BNRC volunteer workdays will be limited to 3-10 participants that must RSVP. Staff members will not count toward the total participants. 
  • Self-screen your health and don’t come to a workday if:
    • You or somebody in your household experiences COVID-19 symptoms or has traveled within the past 2 weeks to a location where COVID cases are high.
    • Anyone in your household has been exposed to someone with COVID-19.
  • Participants must bring a face mask to wear. BNRC will have extra in case someone forgets theirs.
  • Participants must practice social distancing by remaining 6 feet away from others on the trail. This includes stepping off the trail to let other visitors pass.
  • Participants must bring their own water, snacks, and work gloves. BNRC will have work gloves to provide you to keep if necessary.

Tuesday, April 20, 10:00 am – 1:00 pm (8 volunteers)
Invasive Species Removal at The Boulders, Pittsfield

Join us in an effort to remove invasive species along the Blue and Red trail at The Boulders reserve. We will hike in approximately ¾ mile to the work-site. Invasive species will be removed with hand tools like loppers and handsaws. BNRC will provide all tools and will sanitize them prior to use. Please wear sturdy shoes, and bring a mask, gloves, 32oz of water, and lunch. The outlined safety protocols must be followed. Also, if you have loppers and/or pruners, please feel free to bring.


Tuesday, May 4, 10:00 am – 12:30 pm (5 volunteers)
Corridor and Vista Clearing at Mahanna Cobble, Pittsfield

This workday will focus on clearing the trail corridor and a vista viewpoint. We’ll hike 3.2 miles total. BNRC will provide all tools. Please wear sturdy shoes, and bring a mask, gloves, 32oz of water, and a snack. The outlined safety protocols must be followed. Also, if you have loppers and/or pruners, please feel free to bring them.


Saturday, May 8, 10:00 am – 1:00 pm (8 volunteers)

The Housatonic Valley Association, in partnership with BNRC, is determined to eradicate the invasive species along this stretch of the East Branch of the Housatonic River. Come learn about the effort and participate in making this vision a reality. We’ll hike in about ¾ mile and primarily focus on the removal of garlic mustard. BNRC will provide all tools. Please wear sturdy shoes, and bring a mask, gloves, water. The outlined safety protocols must be followed.


Friday, May 14, 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm (6 volunteers)
Invasive Species Removal at Stevens Glen, West Stockbridge

Join us in an effort to remove invasive species on this unique reserve. We will primarily focus on the removal of garlic mustard and also do some regular maintenance. BNRC will provide all tools. Please wear sturdy shoes, and bring a mask, gloves, water. The outlined safety protocols must be followed.

This workday will focus on clearing the trail corridor of the Mother Loop and a small section of the Father Loop. We’ll also work to maintain a couple vista viewpoints along the trails. BNRC will provide all tools and will sanitize them prior to use. Please wear sturdy shoes, and bring a mask, gloves, 32oz of water, and lunch. The outlined safety protocols must be followed. Also, if you have loppers and/or pruners, please feel free to bring.


Sunday, May 23, 9:30 am – 12:30 pm (8 volunteers)
Invasive Species Removal on the Old Mill Trail, Hinsdale/Dalton  

The Housatonic Valley Association, in partnership with BNRC, is determined to eradicate the invasive species along this stretch of the East Branch of the Housatonic River. Come learn about the effort and participate in making this vision a reality. We’ll hike in about 3 miles total and focus on the removal of barberry. BNRC will provide all tools. Please wear sturdy shoes, and bring a mask, gloves, water. The outlined safety protocols must be followed.


Monday, May 24, 10:00 am – 2:00 pm (3 volunteers)
Trail Re-blazing along the Threemile Hill Trail, Great Barrington

This workday in partnership with the Great Barrington Land Conservancy will focus on re-painting the blazes along the Threemile Hill. We’ll hike approximately 3 miles. BNRC will provide all tools and will sanitize them prior to use. Please wear clothes you don’t mind getting paint on, sturdy shoes, and bring a mask, gloves, 32oz of water, and lunch. The outlined safety protocols must be followed.

Waterbar Cleaning and Corridor Clearing along the Burbank Trail, Richmond

Hike the 3.2-mile Burbank Trail and help to reshape and clean out waterbars as well as clear the trail corridor. BNRC will provide all tools and will sanitize them prior to use. Please wear sturdy shoes, and bring a mask, gloves, 32oz of water, and lunch. The outlined safety protocols must be followed. Also, if you have loppers and/or pruners, please feel free to bring.


Tuesday, June 8, 10:00 am – 1:00 pm (4 volunteers)
Trail Surface work on the Burbank Trail, Richmond

Join us in fixing an area of washed out trail. We’ll hike about 2 miles. BNRC will provide all tools and will sanitize them prior to use. Please wear sturdy shoes, and bring a mask, gloves, 32oz of water, and lunch. The outlined safety protocols must be followed.
