Vernal Pool Walk at Alford Springs, Alford, 04/11/2018

Learn how to identify wood frog and salamander eggs and learn why it is important to protect these vital breeding grounds.

ALFORD SPRINGS

Difficulty: Moderate (moderate pace, moderate elevation changes, some off trail venturing)

Description: Join us for a walk at Alford Springs to learn about vernal pools, why they are valuable and in need of protection. We will mostly be walking on-trail with some off-trail venturing. Please bring lunch/snack, water, and wear appropriate footwear.

Directions: From the center of Great Barrington, take Taconic Avenue.  Taconic Avenue turns into Alford Road.  After passing Simons Rock College, take a left onto Seekonk Road.  Seekonk Road turns into Green River Road.  After traveling about 6 miles, take a right onto Mountain Road.  Once on Mountain Road, go past BNRC’s first parking area (at the sharp turn).  Go to the end of the road before bearing right to go down into BNRC’s second parking area.
