Join us for this loop hike in New Marlborough at BNRC’s Steepletop reserve. Rated easy, this hike is a loop around extensive wetlands. Part of BNRC’s largest reserve, the hike will introduce you to just one of the many trails you may want to return to explore especially in winter. The trail network is excellent for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. Surrounded by 5,000 acres of protected land, this reserve is home to beaver, otters, coyotes, deer, bear, and many species of birds. While we may not see these animals, we may see tracks, otter slides, and other signs of animal life. The hike is approximately two hours.
Registration opens January 26th at 9am on OLLI’s website: Register here
Location: Steepletop, New Marlborough
Trail Details: Easy, little elevation gain. 2.2 miles roundtrip.
What to Bring: Hiking in the winter is a special experience but it does require thoughtful preparation. Please be sure you have appropriate clothing – good hats, mittens/gloves, and wind and water proof outer layers if possible. Trails can be slippery. All winter hikers should use poles and micro-spikes. BNRC can provide extra poles, microspikes and snowshoes if needed.
Cancellation: Winter weather may mean we can’t hike on a designated day. We will notify all registered hikers by 8:00 AM about changes. We will cancel if the actual or feels like temperature is 15 degrees or below. If a snowfall means snowshoeing is an option, we will send a notification by 8:00 AM. BNRC does have snowshoes to borrow if you don’t have your own.
