LENOX, Mass. (WWLP) – The Berkshire Natural Resources Council (BNRC) has received a $180,000 grant from the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism (MOTT) to improve visitor access and wayfinding at several reserves in the Berkshires.
The grant from MOTT’s Destination Development Capital (DDC) Grant Program requires a 1:1 match, which is supported by a $75,000 grant from the Jane and Jack Fitzpatrick Trust. The project aims to upgrade trailhead infrastructure, improve accessibility, and enhance wayfinding to make the region’s conserved lands more accessible year-round.
“This project reflects exactly what the Destination Development Capital Grant Program is designed to do,” said Kate Fox, Executive Director of MOTT. “BNRC’s thoughtful approach enhances access to some of the Berkshires’ most beloved trails while incorporating climate-resilient features.”
The grant funds will be used for several targeted improvements, including more welcoming and informative trailhead kiosks and signage, accessibility improvements at selected trail entrances, and parking changes at busy trailheads.
